Antique United Fireman Insurance Company Cast Iron Plaque This cast iron fire insurance plaque is an antique original. It is a design that was issued by the United Firemen’s Insurance Company of Philadelphia Pennsylvania between 1860 & 1956. According to the firemarks page on the Firemen''s Hall of Fame museum website this insurance company was started by Philadelphia fire engine, hose and ladder companies who could not afford the entrance fee to join the already existing Fire Association of Philadelphia. This oval plaque depicts a steam fire engine in the center with a capital U on the left and a capital F on the right. The engine depicted was the latest in fire fighting technology when these plaques were first issued. The plaques were originally painted black and gold with the background being black and the steam engine and letters painted gold.
